A green, public, and technifying device. The intervention is topped off with the insertion of a new, contemporary element that is at the same time linked to a certain memory of the place, alight and transparent structure that brings singularity, identity, and character to the entire intervention. This element is attached to the existing party wall and is understood as a contemporary orangerie, a vertical public garden that, climbing up the existing party wall, offers the possibility to ascend to an exceptional place.

Performativity

Its strong public condition allows attending to the performative function of the entire complex, unfolding as an active intervention, as an artistic, energetic, social device. Its performativity acquires a double dimension. On one side, the public makes it their own, traversing it, enjoying its views. On the other side, it becomes an exceptional support for first-rate artistic interventions in a privileged location, visible from a wide environment and ata national scale.

A vertical public garden

This building-garden is a kind of orangerie or greenhouse that, linking with the nineteenth-century tradition of such relevant pieces as Paxton's Crystal Palace - contemporary to the building of the Mining Company - rises lightly above the roof of the nave-building, reaches the cornice level of the neighboring party wall, and continues until crowning a volume outlined by acombination of light structure, air, and vegetation. In continuity with the public route on the ground floor, this vertical garden, a counterpart to the one crowning the Torre de Cristal also owned by Mutua Madrileña, presents itself as a surprising space that the public can traverse in various ways, offering an exceptional place from which to contemplate the fall of Madrid's cornice towards the west.

Artificial heart

This device functions as a heart that breathes life into the whole once restored. As if it were an autonomous element that connects to the existing hardware, the new structure completes the set, technifies it, and contains everything necessary to leave the historical container free.

Party wall surgery

This element is inserted at the only point in the complex where the impacton the protected heritage is null: on the party wall with the building at Calle del Río No. 22, understanding it as what it really is: the facade of the entire operation to the Sabatini Gardens and the Plaza de España. Inside the nave, the intervention is attached to the existing party wall, minimizing its thickness, which contains a load-bearing structure and a vertical communication core that provides access to the upper public space and the lower conference room.
