The new “tents” of the Pavillon de la Danse will be built with a system of laminated solid wood panels, which meets the main objectives of the competition: minor impact of construction, simplicity of implementation, economy means, future adaptation, reduction of maintenance costs and material recycling. These "wooden tents" will be protected on the outside with a layer of clear aluminum capable of blending in with the light and colors of the environment.
The Pavillon de la Danse project at Place Sturm requires an optimistic, serene and elegant intervention, capable of activating and promoting the public life of the place. This project adopts a minimally invasive strategy that respects the environment and is completely reversible.
The four volumes that compose it are arranged in their location like a temporary establishment: lightweight huts with pitched roofs that create an environment suitable for the artistic performance. The vision of these abstract "tents", arranged among the trees, endowed with a vibrant and luminous presence, is of great power.
The project seeks to reduce the scale of the intervention to adapt it to the public space, providing an easy dialogue with the community. This architectural configuration allows the arrangement of all public uses on the ground floor, which promotes relationships with the immediate surroundings. The Foyer volume faces the axis of Place Sturm like the main facade. The box of the Hall is placed between the street and the old trees; the arrangement of the two smaller volumes corresponds to the roads and staff access. The size of the complex, therefore, decreases the closer you get to Boulevard des Tranchées.
The constructive system seeks economy and simplicity in terms of production, transport, assembly and maintenance. The interior will be suitable for the necessary uses with light structures, dry assembled and easily modifiable, in steel, wood and glass (mezzanines, walkways, divisions, doors, warehouses, etc.).
